A fence delimits the property, protects access and hides it from view. We will choose a fence capable of fulfilling one or all of these roles.
Define property boundaries
If the only role
of the fence is to clearly identify the perimeter of the property , we can be
satisfied with something rather symbolic and low. Opt for perforated spans less
than one meter high in aluminum or PVC in accordance with the style of the
gate.
If you want to
keep your pets, you can put a flexible and low mesh, openwork and maintained by
spaced posts, to be as discreet as possible and not to cut into the landscape.
It will also serve as a support for climbing plants.
Protect yourself from intruders
If the fence
must, in addition to delimiting the land, provide physical protection, it is
better to choose a more dissuasive and solid device. To prevent animals from
the neighboring meadow from taking a dip in the pool , a plant fence may be
sufficient, if not in an emergency, we can mount plasticized welded mesh panels
(to prevent corrosion) between posts every 2 to 2.50 m. The mesh should be
tight and very robust. From 0.90 m to 2 m high, depending on the model, they
offer good protection and remain discreet. Depending on the brand, there are
nearly 200 color shades (RAL).
Hide and isolate
In front of the
swimming pool, in front of the living room or on the street side, if the fence
must allow isolation from the neighborhood, choose blackout models. On steel
fences, we can add scallops, a kind of sheet metal plates, sometimes cut and welded
between the bars. If you prefer to wait for the vegetation to cover the fences,
fix synthetic or natural screens such as reed nets, or even an artificial
hedge.
With or without a low wall?
For aesthetic
reasons, most municipalities impose a low wall at the base of the fences on the
track 60/70 cm high (about 1/3 of the fence). The advantage is to protect
oneself from runoff and to block the road to small pests . In regions prone to
flooding, very humid and extremely rainy, the masonry base is more stable and
will ensure the durability of the fence. The downside is that you have to dig
and pour the foundations to prevent the wall from sinking. Depending on the
region, descend to the frost-free depth. While paint covered fences are more
liable to wear and tear with time, powder coated fence is impervious to
scratches, fading chipping, and any sort of wear and tear.
